Ayurvedic Postpartum Care
Honouring Your Sacred Window
The first 42 days postpartum is often called a sacred window of time where a birther’s body and mind are even more sensitive to what is being ingested in both outer and inner worlds. The postpartum window is said to be a time that will impact the next 42 years of a birther’s life. If this window is filled with nourishment and support, then this will follow for the next 42 years of their life.
Having postpartum support greatly reduces a birther’s risk of postpartum depression, depletion and exhaustion and creates an environment in which they can be fully attentive and attuned to the needs of baby and receive the love and care needed to have a full recovery.
Many traditional cultures around the world are attuned to the importance of deeply caring for the mother for the first month postpartum and know that it is imperative to the family unit, new baby and community that our mothers are nurtured in this sacred time of their life. This beautiful wisdom is passed on in many cultures around the world and has the capacity to strengthen families, and communities.
As an Ayurvedic postpartum doula, my intention is to help foster a grounding and nourishing environment for families and help ease the transition of bringing a new life into the world.
Supporting the birther is my main priority as when they are nourished and balanced, this will trickle down to both baby, immediate family members and community. Each day that I come, I will check in to access digestion, mood, bowel movement, milk supply, and sleep of both mother and baby. This information will help me to create and tailor the most supportive meals, herbs and routines to help establish harmony.
